Hey, bug guts! I’m talking to you!

Actually I am talking to everybody, because we are all walking around with about 2 pounds of bacterial bugs in our bodies. Mostly in our stomachs to be exact.

These friendly bacterial bugs are also known as probiotics or gut flora.

This 2 pound pile of bacteria is a necessary and very vital part of our health. While some of the bacteria are considered harmful, most of the bacteria within a healthy person are extremely helpful.

There are approximately 400 different species helping us to carry on with healthy, bodily processes but they have gone ignored for far to long.

A healthy intestinal tract should contain at least 85 percent of these friendly bacteria because they actually help to fight off disease causing micro-organisms like salmonella and E.coli.

Probiotics work at improving our digestion and absorption of foods. They are also involved in vitamin production, and the stimulation of immune system function.

They are also extremely beneficial for treating a range of digestive problems, intestinal stomach bugs and urinary tract infections. Probiotics help prevent the overgrowth of yeast and fungus making them useful in the treatment of candida and other fungal and harmful bacterial conditions.

Lactobacillus, just one of the 400 species, is used to assist with protein digestion, it is helpful for treating lactose-intolerant people. Probiotics in general can reduce food allergies by helping with and enhancing the absorption of nutrients.

Lactobacillus bifidus aids in the synthesis of B vitamins, the energy vitamins, by creating healthy gut flora, helping to establish a healthy environment for the manufacture of the B complex vitamins and vitamin K, important for blood clotting, bone building and fighting heart disease.

There is so much more to probiotics than this tiny article can relay so next time someone makes a face at bug guts, you just remember how important they really are to your health.
